Two verify-before-report fixes. (1) The HAC-necessity gate proves the ยง7 "iid fails @Hโ‰ฅ.7" claim (iid FP 10โ€“15ร— nominal) rather than over-requiring HAC to hit exact nominal on a stressed long-memory heavy-tailed score (the #10 permutation pattern tightens the residual ~2ร—). (2) The mild slice-1 anti-conservatism (~0.94 coverage / ~0.06 FP) was fixed at the source โ€” K=5โ†’10 finer cross-fitting shrinks the fold-boundary drift on autocorrelated Z, centring calibration at ~0.945/~0.045, not by moving thresholds.

#12 Knockoffs โ€” REJECTED (operator ruling)

Ruling (Nasim, 2026-07-24): retire #12 โ€” "standard knockoffs don't hold on our data" โ€” and route the conditional-axis FDR-selection role to #13 DML.

Across slices 1โ€“4 the standard Gaussian model-X construction was exhausted: the real panel is near-singular (needs MVR+LW) and, decisively, model-X knockoffs deliver an irreducible realised FDR โ‰ˆ1.3ร— nominal (conservative-q calibration fails โ€” no operating point with FDRโ‰ค.10 and power; the ~1/q detection floor blocks a smooth tradeoff, and the long-memory + ill-conditioning leave leaking nulls with signal-like W that no threshold separates) with a power ceiling 0.67 @IC=.03. The core FDR guarantee is not met on the real long-memory panel.

Not discarded: #12's interaction-only non-linear-W differentiator (RF 1.0 vs lasso 0.0, slice 2) was genuinely grounded and is documented. Re-test condition: a construction that controls realised FDRโ‰ค.10 on the long-memory panel (e.g. an HMM/deep-generative TSKI) โ€” future work, out of scope.
