# agent-bridge

Let your coding agents work together. Ask one to give another a task, review the
result, and report back—all from the same terminal.

Supports **Claude Code, Codex, Muse, OpenCode, Pi, Oh My Pi, and Cursor**.

## Install

Requires Python 3.12+. Install and sign in to the agents you want to use, then choose one:

```bash
pip install agent-bridge-orchestrator
# or
pipx install agent-bridge-orchestrator
# or
uv tool install agent-bridge-orchestrator
```

With `pip` or `pipx`, install a suitable Python first; `uv` can download it for you.

## Get started

```bash
cd ~/projects/app
bridge claude
```

Then ask:

> Ask Codex through the bridge to add a --json flag to src/cli.py.
> Review its changes and report back.

Bridge installs the agent instructions and starts Codex when needed. Later requests
reuse its conversation. You can also launch `bridge codex`, `bridge muse`,
`bridge opencode`, `bridge pi`, `bridge omp`, or `bridge cursor`.

## Use it from your terminal

Run `bridge setup` once to install the agent instructions, then send a request.
`--from me` names you as the sender:

```bash
bridge setup
bridge ask --from me --to codex "Review this project"
```

To send work now and collect the answer later:

```bash
id=$(bridge send --from me --to muse "Review the tests")
bridge wait --from me "$id"
```

Each background agent handles one task at a time and keeps its conversation.
Add `--new-session` to `ask` or `send` for a fresh start. Add `--timeout 60` to
`ask` or `wait` to stop waiting after a minute; the work continues.

| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
| `bridge agents` | List connected agents. |
| `bridge watch` | Follow the conversation. |
| `bridge tasks --from me` | Inspect your task history; add `--json` for scripts. |
| `bridge cancel --from me ID` | Cancel a running Codex app-server task. |
| `bridge stop AGENT` | Stop a background agent. |
| `bridge doctor [AGENT]` | Diagnose startup problems without changing files. |
| `bridge upgrade` | Update Bridge and refresh its skills. |

For all commands and options—including broadcasts, progress notes and configured
workers—see the [command reference](docs/reference.md#commands) or `bridge --help`.

## Discuss a decision together

```bash
bridge roundtable --from me --agents claude,codex,muse --moderator claude \
  "Compare the proposed designs and recommend one. Preserve disagreements."
```

Participants read one another's contributions before the moderator writes a report.
Discussions are for analysis, with bounded rounds and time limits; they do not
authorize implementation. See [roundtables](docs/reference.md#roundtables) for
participant rules, timeouts and partial results.

## Work on several projects

Give each project its own workspace:

```bash
bridge --workspace app claude
# From another terminal in the same project:
bridge --workspace app ask --from me --to codex "Review this project"
```

Workspaces keep agents, sessions and messages separate. They do not make separate
copies of your files. Without a workspace, projects share the default bus.
See [workspace settings](docs/reference.md#workspaces).

## Skills and settings

`bridge setup` installs five skills for all seven supported agents:

- `bridge`: exchange messages and delegate work.
- `bridge-roundtable`: run discussions and summarize decisions.
- `bridge-tasks`: inspect history, recover replies and cancel supported tasks.
- `bridge-workspaces`: keep projects separate.
- `bridge-setup`: install, diagnose and configure agents.

Interactive launch and `bridge upgrade` refresh them too. The [skills guide](docs/skills.md)
explains how to invoke them in each agent.

Use `bridge start AGENT --model MODEL --effort VALUE` to run a configured worker in
the foreground. Model names, effort levels and permissions depend on the agent;
see [agent settings](docs/reference.md#agent-settings). Background OpenCode grants
permission requests, and background Cursor uses `--force`.

## Development

Python standard library only at runtime.

```bash
uv sync
make check   # lint, type checking and tests
make fmt     # format and apply automatic fixes
```

Use `uv tool install --editable .` to run your checkout.
